Replacing an old wind turbine in Devon
A new KW30 replaced an ageing wind turbine on a Devon farm, reusing the existing concrete foundation.
Replacing an ageing wind turbine
A farm in Bradworthy, Devon, already had an older wind turbine on the property. Rather than abandon the existing infrastructure and start again, the farm wanted to make use of the site’s established wind energy set-up.
Kodair Wind identified an opportunity to repower the site with a new KW30 while keeping the existing concrete foundation.
Repower and reuse
On 27 April 2026, the Kodair Wind team installed a new KW30 at the farm. The existing foundation was reused, so no new concrete base had to be built.
The work involved assessing the existing infrastructure, preparing the tower mounting and installing the turbine using Kodair’s engineered tower and foundation connection system.
- Reuse of the existing concrete foundation, subject to engineering verification
- Less new concrete and civil works
- An established wind energy location kept in use
- Ageing turbine technology replaced with a new KW30
- A longer productive life for the site’s renewable energy infrastructure
Strong summer generation
The turbine generated 25,636 kWh in its first four summer months, a promising start as the site moves into the typically windier autumn and winter.
With the strongest months still ahead, Kodair Wind expects the KW30 to produce more than 80,000 kWh a year, subject to actual wind conditions. Monitoring over a full 12 months will give a clearer picture of annual performance.
The Kodair team were excellent, from the initial consultation right through to the turbine installation. We are very happy with the result.
Repowering older wind sites
Across the UK and Ireland, older wind turbines are reaching an age where replacement may make more sense than continued maintenance. Where foundations and site infrastructure are suitable, Kodair Wind can assess replacing them with a KW20 or KW30, potentially reducing installation costs, construction work and environmental impact.
Generation depends on each site’s wind. Ask us for an estimate for your site.
